Deep and softly lustrous, this Rose Pink Tussar Silk Saree carries large applique blooms across the body — each petal cut from tissue and satin fabric in shades of coral, blush, antique gold and sage, laid onto the silk ground and outlined in fine gold thread. Slender leaf sprigs and clusters of small looped buds in cream and peach fill the spaces between, giving the layout an airy, bouquet-like rhythm against the saturated pink.
The border resolves into a wide band of tonal pink cutwork embroidery, worked in a paisley and floral motif with the ground cut away and finished in a deep scalloped edge. The body of the tussar holds the openwork band firmly, so the scallops keep their shape along the length of the drape. The applique flowers continue over the border, so the transition from body to edge stays continuous rather than abrupt. The unstitched blouse piece is in matching rose pink, carrying the same applique blooms and bud sprigs.
Saree Length: 5.5meters
Blouse Piece Length: 0.8 meters

Applique builds a flower from cloth rather than thread. Each petal is cut from a contrasting fabric — here tissue and satin in coral, gold and sage — laid onto the tussar ground and locked down with a fine embroidered outline in gold thread, giving the bloom a raised, dimensional surface that plain embroidery cannot match. Around it, looped bud clusters and stem-stitched sprigs are worked directly into the ground. The border is finished in cutwork, where the fabric between the embroidered motifs is cut away and the edges secured, leaving an openwork band that ends in a deep scallop.
The tussar base is woven in Bhagalpur, Bihar — the country's largest tussar silk cluster, where the wild-reeled yarn has been handled for generations. The applique and cutwork embroidery are then worked in Gujarat, a centre for applique, cutwork and hand-finished trims, where the karigars bring that patchwork vocabulary to contemporary silk drapes.
