A dual tone rani pink Kanchivaram silk saree that shifts to coral orange in the light. Round gold zari buttas are woven across the plain body. A fine gold zari border with narrow motif bands and thin green stripes runs along both sides, edged with a red selvedge. The pallu is woven all over in rich gold zari, with creepers, peacocks and diamond patterns set in dense bands. A matching red blouse piece with a fine zari border comes with the saree. It suits weddings, festivals and special occasions.

Saree length: 5.5 metres, plus a 0.8 metre blouse piece
Blouse: plain red with a fine zari border
Weave: dual tone
Body: round gold zari buttas
Border: fine gold zari border with narrow motif bands and green stripes
Pallu: all-over gold zari with creepers, peacocks and diamond patterns
Care: dry clean only. Store folded in a muslin cloth, and refold it every few months.

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. The body, border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked, which gives a strong border. The dual tone effect comes from weaving the warp and weft in two different colours, so the silk changes shade as it moves. The round buttas and the dense zari pallu are woven on the loom, with careful setting of the warp and weft.

Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on temple architecture and nature, including peacocks, creepers, medallions and diamond patterns.
