About The House

Two women in handwoven Kanjivaram sarees from The Saffron House

Own Your Roots

The House of the Couture Kanjivaram

The Saffron House is a Bangalore couture house devoted to one weave: the Kanjivaram. We design it in our own studio, have it handwoven in pure silk and real zari, and finish it by hand as couture.

Each bridal Kanjivaram is made as a single piece, for the one woman who will make it her own. Around it, we keep a small edit of India's finest handlooms, chosen with the same eye. Explore our edits.

Our Philosophy

What we believe

A Kanjivaram is never simply bought. It is inherited. We make the ones worth inheriting.

I

Made, not found

Every Kanjivaram from The Saffron House begins as a drawing in our studio. Its borders, pallu and zari are ours from the very first line.

II

One of one

Our bridal Kanjivarams are made as single pieces. Exclusivity is not something we print on a label. It is how we work.

III

Heritage, seen anew

We respect Kanchipuram's traditions enough to question them: reviving a 70-year-old Kanjivaram for Cannes, painting on silk for Blooming Heiress.

IV

Pure, without exception

Every silk saree we make or choose is Silk Mark certified. Purity is never in question.

V

The hand comes first

Every weaver is paid in full before their saree reaches our store. Without exception.

This is what we mean by belonging: a saree that carries your roots, and still looks entirely like you.

The Making

From drawing to bride

1

Design

Motifs, colour and zari are drawn in our studio.

2

Loom

Master weavers bring the design to life in pure silk and real zari.

3

Couture

Hand embroidery, embellishment and painted detail are added by hand.

4

The Bride

The saree is styled with its blouse and drape, for her alone.

Blooming Heiress

In Blooming Heiress, we imagined the Kanjivaram as a canvas, pairing its timeless weave with hand-painted art, so that the poetry of the brush meets the grandeur of the loom.

The collection debuted on the runway at Bombay Times Fashion Week, worn by Aditi Rao Hydari.
