A Letter from Meera
Dear friend,
I have always believed that a saree remembers. It remembers the hands that wove it, the woman who first wore it, and every celebration it was carried to after that. Of all the sarees I have loved, none remembers like the Kanjivaram. Heavy with silk and bright with real zari, it is the sari South Indian brides have worn for generations, and the one their daughters inherit.
I started The Saffron House in 2021 because I wanted a home for that kind of saree. Not a shop that sells sarees by the stack, but a house where every piece has a maker, a story and a future.
I did not build it alone. I first met Anmol as her client at Avani Design Studio, where she designed my outfits. Our fittings turned into long phone calls, and those calls went on for a year and a half. We talked about silk, about weavers, and about what a bride really wants to feel on her wedding day. Somewhere in those conversations, we realised we were describing the same brand, and so we built it together, as equal partners. Anmol is the creative heart of the house. Every bridal saree begins as her design, and it is her eye that adds the zari embroidery and couture detail that make each one ours.
In 2024 we opened our flagship in Bangalore, so we could work directly with the looms. We made ourselves a few promises: every Kanjivaram we sell is Silk Mark certified, our signature pieces carry the names of the master weavers who made them, and every weaver is paid in full before their saree comes to our store.
Some of our proudest moments have come from those looms. In 2025, Disha Madan walked Cannes in a 70-year-old Kanjivaram that we revived and Anmol reimagined. Later that year, Aditi Rao Hydari walked the runway at Bombay Times Fashion Week in our hand-painted Blooming Heiress Kanjivarams. But the moments that move me most are quieter: a bride seeing herself in the mirror for the first time, in a saree made only for her. Today we dress more than 50 such brides a year.
My brides aren't looking for permission to shine. They're looking for a saree that matches the woman they already are. That is what we try to weave, every single time.
Whether you visit us in Bangalore or shop with us online, we would love to be part of your story.
With love,
Meera Raju
