A rich magenta Gadwal silk saree with fine gold zari checks across the body. Small round and peacock buttas in gold and silver zari are scattered between the checks. The coral red border is woven in gold zari, with a temple edge, bands of medallions and paisleys and a olive green selvedge. The coral pallu is richly woven with large peacocks, a paisley band, a zigzag pattern and a row of silver zari fish, and it blends into the body through the Gadwal interlocking weave. A matching coral red blouse piece with fine stripes comes with the saree. It suits weddings, festivals and special occasions.

Saree length: 5.5 metres, plus a 0.8 metre blouse piece
Blouse: coral red with fine stripes
Body: magenta with gold zari checks and gold and silver buttas
Border: gold zari temple border with medallion and paisley bands and an olive green edge
Pallu: coral with peacock, paisley, zigzag and silver zari fish bands
Care: dry clean only. Store folded in a muslin cloth, and refold it every few months.

Gadwal weaving is known for its interlocked weave, in which the silk border and pallu are joined to the body with a tight interlocking of the weft threads. This gives the saree a light body and a rich, bold border. The zari checks, the gold and silver buttas and the peacock and fish motifs in the pallu are all woven on the loom, with careful setting of the warp and weft.

Gadwal is a town in Telangana, and its weavers have made sarees for generations. The designs draw on temple architecture and nature, including peacocks, paisleys, fish and medallions. Gadwal sarees are valued for being light to wear and for their bold contrast between body and border.
