A soft lavender ikat silk saree woven with an arched floral lattice in white, pink, yellow and green. The body is framed by wide maroon borders woven with bold ikat flowers in mustard, teal and pink. A scalloped edging in gold zari, hand-embroidered with floral and leaf motifs, sequins and small stones, runs along both sides and the pallu end. The maroon pallu carries bands of ikat flowers between red stripes, with a broad gold tissue zari panel at the end. A matching red blouse piece with fine orange and gold stripes comes with the saree. It suits weddings, receptions, festivals and special occasions.

Ikat is a resist-dyeing technique in which sections of the yarn are tied and dyed in the planned colours before weaving. The weaver then aligns the threads on the loom so the pattern appears, with the softly feathered edges that mark ikat. It takes careful planning and skill. On this saree, artisans then embroider the scalloped border by hand with zari thread, sequins and small stones. This gives a raised, jewelled finish that frames the ikat.
Ikat is woven in several regions of India, and each has its own motifs and colours. This design draws on the Patola tradition, with its arched lattice, bold flowers and clean geometric lines. Weaving families have passed this craft down through generations.
