A vibrant orange Kanchivaram silk saree with gold zari checks across the body. The wide purple border carries a hand-embroidered lattice pattern in gold zari, set between woven temple-style zari bands. The purple pallu has broad gold zari stripes and traditional woven motifs, and it finishes with tasselled ends. A matching purple blouse piece with a gold zari border comes with the saree. It suits weddings, festivals and other special occasions.

Saree length: 5.5 metres, plus a 0.8 metre blouse piece
Blouse: matching purple with a gold zari border
Body: gold zari checks
Border: hand-embroidered zari lattice work with woven temple bands
Pallu: striped with woven zari motifs and tassels
Care: dry clean only. Store folded in a muslin cloth, and refold it every few months.

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. The body, border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked, which gives a strong border and a bold contrast between body and border. On this saree, artisans hand-embroider the lattice pattern in the border with zari thread, stitch by stitch. This adds a raised texture on top of the woven zari bands.

Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on temple architecture, including borders, stripes, checks and medallion motifs.
