A Kanchivaram silk saree in soft pearl grey, woven all over with a fine gold zari jaal of climbing flowers, leaves and small medallions. The zari catches the light and gives the body a quiet, antique shimmer. A slate blue border carries gold zari butterfly and lotus motifs between narrow zari lines, and a finely ridged grey band sits between the border and the body. The pallu is slate blue, woven with a gold zari herringbone texture and a matching motif border. A slate blue blouse piece, with a gold zari border to match, comes with the saree. It suits weddings, receptions and special occasions, and the grey and slate blue with gold is a refined, understated combination.

Kanchipuram silk sarees are woven on handlooms from silk thread and zari. The weaver builds the pattern on the loom, thread by thread, so the zari and the motifs are part of the cloth itself. On this saree the gold zari is woven into a dense jaal of flowers and leaves across the body, and the border carries butterfly and lotus motifs, with a zari herringbone texture on the pallu.
Kanchipuram, in Tamil Nadu, has been known for its silk sarees for centuries. Weaving families here have passed the craft down through generations, and the saree is woven with the same tools and techniques that they have always used. Kanchipuram silk carries a GI tag.
