A royal blue Kanchivaram silk saree with hand-embroidered zari paisley motifs scattered across the body. The body is framed by a mustard border with a woven temple-style zari pattern. The red pallu has gold zari stripes and a lustrous dual-tone sheen that shifts in the light. A matching red blouse piece with a mustard zari border comes with the saree. It suits weddings, festivals and special occasions.

Saree length: 5.5 metres, plus a 0.8 metre blouse piece
Blouse: matching red with a mustard zari border
Embroidery: hand-embroidered zari paisley motifs on the body
Weave: handwoven, with a contrast pallu and temple border
Care: dry clean only. Store folded in a muslin cloth, and refold it every few months.

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. The body, border and pallu are woven separately and then interlocked, which makes the border strong and lets it contrast with the body. On this saree, artisans then hand-embroider each paisley motif in zari thread, stitch by stitch. The embroidery adds a raised, dimensional texture on top of the woven silk.

Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on temple architecture, with motifs such as temple borders, stripes and paisleys.
