Blouse: matching maroon with a peacock zari border

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. The body, border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked, which gives a strong border. The round buttas on the body, the peacock bands and the lattice work in the border are all woven in zari on the loom. Each design takes careful setting of the warp and weft, and the finished weave has a raised, rich texture.
Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on temple architecture and nature, including peacocks, paisleys, lattice patterns and round medallions.
