An olive green Kanchivaram silk saree with a dual-tone sheen and gold zari checks across the body. The wide hot pink border carries a hand-embroidered lattice pattern in gold zari, set between woven zari bands and a small paisley motif edge. The pink pallu has broad zari stripes with large woven motifs. It ends in twisted tassels finished with small gold sequin discs. A matching pink blouse piece with a woven zari border comes with the saree. It suits weddings, festivals and other special occasions.

Saree length: 5.5 metres, plus a 0.8 metre blouse piece
Blouse: matching pink with a woven zari border
Body: gold zari checks
Border: hand-embroidered zari lattice work with woven zari bands
Pallu: striped with large woven zari motifs and sequin-finished tassels
Care: dry clean only. Store folded in a muslin cloth, and refold it every few months.

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. The body, border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked, which gives a strong border and a bold contrast between body and border. On this saree, artisans hand-embroider the lattice pattern in the border with zari thread, stitch by stitch. This adds a raised texture on top of the woven zari bands.

Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on temple architecture, including borders, stripes, checks and medallion motifs.
