A soft mustard Kanchivaram silk saree woven with fine cream stripes and small floral buttas in gold zari across the body. The pink border carries a flowing creeper of flowers and leaves in magenta, parrot green and orange threads on a rose gold zari ground, edged with a deep pink selvedge. The pink pallu is woven with rows of floral bouquets in magenta and green, above a rose gold zari ground, framed by the same floral creeper band. A matching pink blouse piece with an all-over leaf pattern in fine gold zari and the floral border comes with the saree. It suits weddings, receptions, festivals and day functions, and the mustard and pink combination is a bright, graceful choice.
Saree length: 5.5 metres, plus a 0.8 metre blouse piece
Blouse: pink with an all-over leaf pattern in gold zari and a floral border
Body: mustard with fine cream stripes and gold zari floral buttas
Border: pink floral creeper in magenta, green and orange on a rose gold zari ground
Pallu: floral bouquets over a rose gold zari ground, with a floral creeper band
Care: dry clean only. Store folded in a muslin cloth, and refold it every few months.
Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. The body, border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked, which gives a strong border and a bold contrast between body and border. The floral creeper and the bouquets are woven in coloured silk threads over a zari ground, in a style close to Paithani, with careful setting of the warp and weft.
Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on nature and temple art, including flowers, creepers, leaves and bouquets.
