A turquoise blue Kanchivaram brocade silk saree with the body woven all over in a fine silver and gold zari lattice, which gives it a shimmering, pearly sheen. The border rises from the hem in tall temple zigzags in deep teal, with pairs of peacocks in gold zari set inside arched frames, and bands of fine silver zari chevrons below them. The pallu repeats the peacock arches and chevron bands, above a field of small diamonds in silver zari, and it ends in a plain turquoise edge. A matching plain turquoise blouse piece with a peacock zari border comes with the saree. It suits weddings, receptions, festivals and special occasions, and the cool turquoise and silver shade is a fresh, elegant choice.

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. The body, border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked, which gives a strong border. In the brocade body, fine zari is woven through the whole saree, so it glows and shifts in the light. The peacock arches, the temple zigzags and the diamond pallu are all woven in zari on the loom, with careful setting of the warp and weft.
Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on temple architecture and nature, including peacocks, temple zigzag edges and diamond patterns.
