A soft off-white Kanchivaram silk saree in the Korvai weave, with a plain, lustrous body. The wide red border is woven with a row of small peacock buttas in gold zari with touches of green and purple, framed by fine gold zari lines, with a broad band of fine gold zari stripes below. The body meets the border in a pale pink striped edge. The red pallu is richly woven in orange gold zari, with a band of paisleys and swans under a temple edge, above an all-over diamond zari pattern, and it ends in tassels. A matching red blouse piece with a peacock butta and zari border comes with the saree. It suits weddings, receptions, festivals and special occasions, and the off-white with red is a classic bridal pairing.

Blouse: red with a peacock butta and zari border
Weave: Korvai
Body: plain off-white
Border: wide red with gold zari peacock buttas and fine zari stripes
Pallu: red with orange gold zari paisley and swan band over an all-over diamond pattern, with tassels

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. In the Korvai technique, the body is woven in one colour and the border in another, and the two are joined by interlocking the weft threads. This gives a sharp contrast where the off-white body meets the red border. The pallu is woven separately and joined in the same way. The peacock buttas, the zari stripes and the diamond pallu are woven on the loom, with careful setting of the warp and weft.
Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on temple art and nature, including peacocks, paisleys, swans, temple edges and diamond lattice patterns.
