A vibrant rani pink Kanchivaram silk saree with small elephant buttas woven in gold zari across the plain body. The border rises from the hem in large gold zari temple (gopuram) triangles, each with a small purple and green accent, and a medallion band runs along the edge. The pallu is richly woven in gold zari, with a band of elephants and mythical animals above a diagonal-striped zari panel, and it ends in tassels. A matching rani pink blouse piece comes with the saree. It suits weddings, festivals and special occasions, and it is a piece for lovers of traditional temple motifs.

Saree length: 5.5 metres, plus a 0.8 metre blouse piece
Blouse: rani pink
Body: plain rani pink with gold zari elephant buttas
Border: gold zari gopuram triangles with a medallion edge
Pallu: elephant and animal band over a diagonal-striped gold zari panel, with tassels
Care: dry clean only. Store folded in a muslin cloth, and refold it every few months.

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. The body, border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked, which gives a strong border. The elephant buttas, the gopuram triangles and the animal band in the pallu are all woven in zari on the loom, with careful setting of the warp and weft.

Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on temple architecture and processions, including gopuram triangles, elephants and mythical animals.
