A vibrant rani pink ikat silk saree in a twill weave, with a soft, fluid fall and a fine diagonal texture. The body is plain, with a narrow panel of Patola-style ikat motifs along the border end, in plum, cream and green, with the soft, feathered outlines that mark ikat. A narrow rose gold zari band separates the body from the pallu. The pallu is a shimmering rose gold tissue, with fine zari stripes that taper into tassel-like lines. Triple orange stripes run along both edges. A matching plain rani pink blouse piece comes with the saree. It suits weddings, festivals and special occasions, and the bright pink with a zari pallu is a lively choice.
Saree length: 5.5 metres, plus a 0.8 metre blouse piece
Blouse: plain rani pink
Weave: twill, with ikat motifs
Body: plain rani pink with a narrow ikat motif panel at the border end
Zari: narrow rose gold band between the body and pallu
Pallu: rose gold tissue with tapering zari stripes

Care: dry clean only. Store folded in a muslin cloth, and refold it every few months.
Ikat is a resist-dyeing technique in which sections of the yarn are tied and dyed in the planned colours before weaving. The weaver then aligns the threads on the loom so the pattern appears, with the softly feathered edges that mark ikat. A twill weave interlaces the threads in a diagonal pattern, which gives a softer, more fluid drape. The motif panel is woven in plum and cream against the pink, and the pallu is woven in rose gold zari.
Ikat is woven in several regions of India, and each has its own motifs and colours. This design draws on the Patola tradition, with its clean geometric motifs and bold contrast. Weaving families have passed this craft down through generations.
