A soft rose pink Kora Kanchivaram silk saree with a light, crisp feel and a fine woven check texture. The body carries rows of birds perched on leafy branches, woven in gold zari and set on a diagonal. The wide border is woven in gold zari with rows of peacocks, bands of fine lattice and a temple edge, framed by a deeper rose selvedge. The pallu is richly woven in soft rose gold zari, with bands of medallions and paisleys above an all-over diamond lattice, and it ends in tassels. A matching rose pink blouse piece with a peacock zari border comes with the saree. It suits weddings, receptions, festivals and day functions.

Saree length: 5.5 metres, plus a 0.8 metre blouse piece
Blouse: rose pink with a peacock zari border
Weave: Kora with a fine check texture
Body: rose pink with diagonal rows of zari birds on leafy branches
Border: wide gold zari peacock and lattice border with a deep rose edge
Pallu: rose gold zari medallion and paisley bands over an all-over diamond lattice, with tassels
Care: dry clean only. Store folded in a muslin cloth, and refold it every few months.

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. Kora silk is woven with a lighter, crisper, more open weave than the classic heavy Kanchivaram, which gives a fresh, airy feel. The body, border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked, which gives a strong border. The bird buttas, the peacock border and the pallu are all woven in zari on the loom, with careful setting of the warp and weft.

Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on temple architecture and nature, including birds, peacocks, paisleys, medallions and diamond lattice patterns.
