An off-white Kanchivaram silk saree in the Korvai weave, with round buttas in gold and silver zari across the plain body. The wide orange border is woven in rich gold zari with medallions and a fine geometric pattern, and it meets the body in a peach and orange temple (gopuram) edge. The orange pallu has a band of paisleys and peacocks under a temple edge, above an all-over diamond zari weave, and it ends in tassels. A matching orange blouse piece with a zari border comes with the saree. It suits weddings, festivals and special occasions.

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. In the Korvai technique, the body is woven in one colour and the border in another, and the two are joined by interlocking the weft threads. This gives a sharp contrast that runs in a zigzag temple line where body meets border. The pallu is woven separately and joined in the same way. The buttas, the border and the pallu are woven in zari on the loom, with careful setting of the warp and weft.
Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on temple architecture and nature, including gopuram edges, peacocks, paisleys and medallions.
