A Kanchivaram silk saree in a rich mustard yellow, with a smooth body that lets the lustre of the silk show. A gold zari border of leaf-shaped medallions, with small floral buttas rising above it, runs along the hem, and a large paisley motif sits at the corner of the pallu end. A narrow parrot green edge frames both sides and adds a fresh contrast. The pallu carries a fine diagonal zari texture in the same mustard. A sea green blouse piece, with a gold zari border and buttas to match, comes with the saree. It suits weddings, festivals, pujas and special occasions, and the mustard with green and gold is a bright, traditional combination.

Kanchipuram silk sarees are woven on handlooms from silk thread and zari. The weaver builds the pattern on the loom, thread by thread, so the zari and the motifs are part of the cloth itself. On this saree the border is woven in a row of leaf medallions with fine dotted lines, topped by small buttas, and the pallu carries a large paisley and a zari texture of fine diagonal lines.
Kanchipuram, in Tamil Nadu, has been known for its silk sarees for centuries. Weaving families here have passed the craft down through generations, and the saree is woven with the same tools and techniques that they have always used. Kanchipuram silk carries a GI tag.
