Baby Pink & Maroon Hand Embroidered Kanchivaram Silk Saree

A soft baby pink Kanchivaram silk saree with hand-embroidered zari motifs scattered across the plain body. The wide maroon border is richly woven with fine vertical zari stripes between bands of hexagonal zari patterns, and it is edged with a light green selvedge. The maroon pallu is woven all over in a hexagonal zari design with a lustrous antique gold shimmer, and it ends in tassels. A matching maroon blouse piece with a woven zari border comes with the saree. It suits weddings, festivals and other special occasions.

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. The body, border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked, which gives a strong border and a bold contrast between body and pallu. On this saree, artisans hand-embroider each motif in zari thread with small stone accents, stitch by stitch. This adds a raised texture on top of the plain silk body.

Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on temple architecture, including borders, stripes and geometric medallion motifs.
