A rich gold Kanchivaram silk saree in the Korvai weave. The body is woven all over in fine gold zari, broken by soft diagonal cream stripes that catch the light. The wide magenta border is woven in antique gold zari with rows of peacocks and arched leaf motifs, divided by fine orange-red and green stripes, and it meets the body in a magenta temple edge. The pallu is richly woven in antique gold zari with a leaf-scale band and a broad diamond lattice below, and it ends in tassels. A matching gold zari check blouse piece with a magenta peacock border comes with the saree. It suits weddings, receptions, festivals and special occasions, and the gold and magenta pairing is a classic bridal choice.

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. In the Korvai technique, the body is woven in one colour and the border in another, and the two are joined by interlocking the weft threads. This gives a sharp contrast where the gold body meets the magenta border. The pallu is woven separately and joined in the same way. The zari body, the peacock and arch bands, the temple edge and the diamond lattice are all woven in zari on the loom, with careful setting of the warp and weft.
Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on temple architecture and nature, including peacocks, arches, leaf patterns, temple edges and diamond lattices.
