A Kanchivaram saree with a shimmering antique gold tissue body, framed by a contrast rani pink silk border. The pink border is kept plain and rich, with a narrow gold zari medallion band running along both edges. The body meets the pallu in a coral striped edge. The rani pink pallu is woven in gold zari, with bands of floral and creeper patterns and a row of paisleys, above a diagonal-striped zari panel with a temple edge, and it ends in tassels. A matching rani pink blouse piece with small gold zari leaf buttas and a medallion zari border comes with the saree. It suits weddings, receptions, festivals and special occasions, and the gold and pink combination is a classic choice for bridal wear.

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. The body, border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked, which gives a strong border and a bold contrast. In the tissue body, gold zari is woven through the silk so the whole body shimmers. The plain silk border sets off the gold, and the paisley bands and the temple edge in the pallu are woven in zari on the loom.
Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on temple architecture and nature, including temple edges, paisleys, creepers and medallions.
