A coral pink Gadwal silk saree with fine gold zari checks across the body. Small dotted diamond buttas in gold and silver zari are scattered between the checks. The wide purple border is woven in gold zari, with bands of florals, a twisted zari stripe and a diamond edge, and a parrot green selvedge sets it off. The purple pallu is richly woven with a row of paired peacocks, paisley bands, bands of small motifs and a diamond lattice with teal and silver accents. It blends into the body through the Gadwal interlocking weave, and it ends in tassels. A matching purple blouse piece with fine gold zari stripes comes with the saree. It suits weddings, festivals and special occasions.

Saree length: 5.5 metres, plus a 0.8 metre blouse piece
Blouse: purple with fine gold zari stripes
Body: coral pink with gold zari checks and gold and silver diamond buttas
Border: gold zari temple border with floral bands and a parrot green edge
Pallu: purple with paired peacocks, paisley bands and a diamond lattice, with tassels
Care: dry clean only. Store folded in a muslin cloth, and refold it every few months.

Gadwal weaving is known for its interlocked weave, in which the silk border and pallu are joined to the body with a tight interlocking of the weft threads. This gives the saree a light body and a rich, bold border. The zari checks, the dotted diamond buttas and the peacock bands in the pallu are all woven on the loom, with careful setting of the warp and weft.

Gadwal is a town in Telangana, and its weavers have made sarees for generations. The designs draw on temple architecture and nature, including peacocks, paisleys, florals and diamond lattices. Gadwal sarees are valued for being light to wear and for their bold contrast between body and border.
