A lilac pink tissue Kanchivaram silk saree with a shimmering gold-lit sheen that shifts between pink and bronze in the light. Parrots perched on small branches are woven across the body in gold, silver, red and green threads. The wide border is woven in rich gold zari with a herringbone and diagonal pattern, framed by fine scroll bands, and edged with a bright orchid pink selvedge. The pallu is a gold and pink tissue woven in fine zari bands of scrolls, florals and a diamond lattice, and it ends in tassels. A matching tissue blouse piece comes with the saree. It suits weddings, receptions, festivals and special occasions, and the pastel pink with gold is a graceful bridal choice.

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. The body, border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked, which gives a strong border. In the tissue weave, fine zari is woven through the weft, so the whole saree glows and changes shade in the light. The parrot buttas are woven in coloured silk and zari threads, and the herringbone border and the pallu are woven in zari on the loom, with careful setting of the warp and weft.
Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on nature and temple art, including parrots, scrolls, florals and diamond patterns.
