A mustard yellow Kanchivaram silk saree in the Korvai weave, with clusters of small flowers in gold zari, with touches of green and maroon, scattered across the plain body. The wide parrot green border is richly woven in gold zari with fine creeper and diagonal patterns, with narrow teal dotted lines and a temple leaf edge, and a teal selvedge finishes it. The parrot green pallu carries large paisleys in gold zari, each filled with teal flowers, above a matching zari border band. A matching parrot green blouse piece with a gold zari border comes with the saree. It suits weddings, festivals and special occasions, and the mustard and green contrast is a bold, traditional choice.

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. In the Korvai technique, the body is woven in one colour and the border in another, and the two are joined by interlocking the weft threads. This gives a sharp contrast where body meets border. The pallu is woven separately and joined in the same way. The floral buttas, the creeper border and the paisleys are woven in zari on the loom, with careful setting of the warp and weft.
Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on temple art and nature, including paisleys, flowers, creepers and the temple leaf edge.
