A dual-tone olive green Kanchivaram silk saree, with a soft green-to-bronze shift in the light. Rose bouquets are embroidered along the body in a cross-stitch style, in red, pink, teal, green, blue and yellow, with small flowers and leaves around each bloom. A purple border carries a woven gold zari band of peacocks and flowers, edged with a mustard selvedge. The purple pallu is woven with fine gold zari stripes and a broad striped panel, and it ends in blue, green and purple tassels. A matching purple blouse piece with an embroidered rose bouquet and a peacock zari border comes with the saree. It suits weddings, festivals and special occasions.

Saree length: 5.5 metres, plus a 0.8 metre blouse piece
Blouse: purple with an embroidered rose bouquet and a peacock zari border
Body: dual-tone olive green with embroidered rose bouquets
Border: woven gold zari peacock and floral band with a mustard edge
Pallu: purple with fine zari stripes and tassels
Care: dry clean only. Store folded in a muslin cloth, and refold it every few months.

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. The body, border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked, which gives a strong border and a bold contrast between body and border. The rose bouquets are embroidered in coloured silk thread, which gives a fine, textured finish on the plain silk. The peacock band in the border is woven in zari on the loom.

Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on temple architecture and nature, including peacocks, flowers and creepers.
