Peach Cream Kora Kanchivaram Silk Saree

A soft peach cream Kora Kanchivaram silk saree with a light, crisp feel and a fine woven texture. Round gold zari buttas are scattered across the plain body. The wide border is woven in gold zari on red, with rows of peacocks and large round medallions framed by narrow floral and temple bands, and a bright orange band runs along its upper edge. The cream pallu is woven all over in a fine gold zari pattern of scrolls and a honeycomb lattice, which gives it a rich, pale gold shimmer. A matching peach cream blouse piece comes with the saree. It suits weddings, receptions, festivals and day functions, and the cream and red pairing is a classic, auspicious choice.

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. Kora silk is woven with a lighter, crisper, more open weave than the classic heavy Kanchivaram, which gives a fresh, airy feel. The body, border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked, which gives a strong border and a bold contrast between the cream body and the red border. The buttas, the peacock and medallion border and the zari pallu are woven in zari on the loom, with careful setting of the warp and weft.

Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on temple art and nature, including peacocks, medallions, scrolls and temple bands.
