A vibrant rani pink Kanchivaram silk saree in a twill weave, which gives it a soft, fluid fall and a fine diagonal texture. Gold zari buttas in round and paisley shapes are scattered across the body. The wide gold zari border is woven in a temple style, with a serrated edge, a diamond pattern and bands of round medallions. The rose pink pallu is richly woven in zari, with large paisleys among leaves and creepers, teardrop motifs at the top and a diagonal geometric pattern below. A matching rani pink blouse piece comes with the saree. It suits weddings, festivals and special occasions.

Saree length: 5.5 metres, plus a 0.8 metre blouse piece
Blouse: matching rani pink
Weave: twill
Body: gold zari buttas in round and paisley shapes
Border: wide gold zari temple border with diamond pattern and medallion bands
Pallu: rose pink zari brocade with paisleys, creepers and teardrop motifs
Care: dry clean only. Store folded in a muslin cloth, and refold it every few months.

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. The body, border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked, which gives a strong border and a clear contrast between body and pallu. A twill weave interlaces the threads in a diagonal pattern. This gives a softer, lighter drape than a plain heavy weave, and the silk keeps its lustre. The buttas, the temple border and the paisley pallu are all woven in zari on the loom.

Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on temple architecture and nature, including temple borders, paisleys, medallions and creepers.
