A vibrant rani pink Kanchivaram silk saree with the body woven all over in fine herringbone lines of gold zari, which give it a soft, shimmering texture. The border is woven in a jaal of floral bouquets in antique gold zari, each framed in a scalloped vine, on a deep pink ground. The pallu repeats the bouquet jaal in neat rows, edged with the same border. A matching rani pink blouse piece with the bouquet border comes with the saree. It suits weddings, receptions, festivals and special occasions, and the tone-on-tone pink and gold is a rich, bridal choice.

Saree length: 5.5 metres, plus a 0.8 metre blouse piece
Blouse: rani pink with a bouquet jaal border
Body: all-over gold zari herringbone texture
Border: bouquet jaal in antique gold zari with scalloped vines
Pallu: rows of bouquet jaal with a matching border
Care: dry clean only. Store folded in a muslin cloth, and refold it every few months.

Kanchivaram weaving is one of India’s oldest silk traditions. The body, border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked, which gives a strong border. The herringbone lines run through the whole body in zari, so the pink shimmers as it moves. The bouquets and vines in the border and pallu are woven in antique zari on the loom, with careful setting of the warp and weft.

Kanchipuram is a temple town in Tamil Nadu and the home of Kanchivaram silk. Weaving families there have passed the craft down through generations. The designs draw on nature and temple art, including flowers, vines and bouquets.
