A twill ikat silk saree in royal blue and sky blue with white highlights, with a soft, fluid fall and a fine diagonal texture. The body is woven in large Patola-style medallions, with sky blue ovals framed in deep blue and set among small crosses, circles and floral dots, all with the soft feathered edges that mark ikat. A white band along the hem sets the ikat panel off from the plain royal blue pallu. Both borders carry fine silver zari stripes on royal blue. A plain royal blue blouse piece, with silver zari stripes at the edge, comes with the saree. It suits weddings, festivals and special occasions, and the cool blues with white and silver make a fresh, striking combination.

Ikat is a resist-dyeing technique in which sections of the yarn are tied and dyed in the planned colours before weaving. The weaver then aligns the threads on the loom so the pattern appears, with the softly feathered edges that mark ikat. A twill weave interlaces the threads in a diagonal pattern, which gives a softer, more fluid drape. The medallions on this saree are woven in sky blue and royal blue against white, and a plain royal blue pallu lets the pattern stand out.
Ikat is woven in several regions of India, and each has its own motifs and colours. This design draws on the Patola tradition, with its bold medallions and small geometric motifs. Weaving families have passed this craft down through generations.
